London, England

London is the capital and most populous city of England and the United Kingdom, as well as the most populous municipality in the European Union. Standing on the River Thames in the south east of the island of Great Britain, London has been a major settlement for two millennia. It was founded by the Romans, who named it Londinium. London's ancient core, the City of London, largely retains its 1.12-square-mile (2.9 km2) medieval boundaries. Since at least the 19th century, "London" has also referred to the metropolis around this core, historically split between Middlesex, Essex, Surrey, Kent, and Hertfordshire, which today largely makes up Greater London, governed by the Mayor of London and the London Assembly.

Toronto, Canada

Toronto is the largest city in Canada and the provincial capital of Ontario. With a population of 2,731,571, it is the fourth-largest city in North America after Mexico City, New York City, and Los Angeles. Toronto is the centre of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), the most populous metropolitan area in Canada, and anchors the Golden Horseshoe, a heavily urbanized region that is home to 8.7 million people, or around 26% of Canada's population. A global city, Toronto is an international centre of business, finance, arts, and culture, and recognized as one of the most multicultural and cosmopolitan cities in the world.

Liverpool, England

Liverpool celebrated its 800th anniversary in 2007, and it held the European Capital of Culture title together with Stavanger, Norway, in 2008. Several areas of Liverpool city centre were granted World Heritage Site status by UNESCO in 2004. Tourism forms a significant part of the city's economy. Labelled the "World Capital City of Pop" by Guinness World Records, the popularity of The Beatles and other groups from the Merseybeat era and later contributes to Liverpool's status as a tourist destination.

Maastricht, The Netherlands

Maastricht is a town and a municipality in the southeast of the Netherlands. It is the capital city of the province of Limburg. Maastricht is located on both sides of the Meuse river (Dutch: Maas), at the point where the Jeker River (French: Geer) joins it.
